Magirus is a (fictional) digital culinary learning platform designed as a social network, created specifically to bridge the cooking skills gap among young people (especially students aged 16 to 26).

The project stems from a clear problem: young people do not need more traditional recipe books, they need motivation and entertainment. That is why Magirus transfers the ecosystem of Generation Z’s favourite streamers and influencers to the context of cooking. Instead of learning from academic figures or television chefs they perceive as alien (such as Gordon Ramsay), users learn from role models such as Billie Eilish, Pokimane or Marshmello.

1. The problem

There is a problem among young people who are becoming independent. Many university students fall into bad eating habits (ultra-processed food or constant delivery) not because of a lack of time, but because of a lack of knowledge and motivation.

Many of them have no interest or have not learned these skills in childhood, which creates enormous gaps when it comes to eating healthily.

2. Research

After conducting research and a series of surveys, I identified the following key points:

  • Barriers to Entry: Most people don’t know where to start, and they find traditional recipes boring.

  • Digital Influence: Young people consume daily content from streamers and public figures, placing a high level of trust in their recommendations.

  • Context: The transition to university life is a critical turning point where healthy habits are often lost if engaging guidance isn’t available.

3. The Concept

To address these challenges, I have designed a platform that is more than just a cookbook—it is an educational social network.

  • The Hook: «Teachers» are top-tier influencers, renowned chefs, and celebrities (e.g., Pokimane, Marshmello).

  • Format: Dynamic content, live collaborations between creators, and a modern visual language.

  • Community: Spaces to share results and follow friends, effectively gamifying the learning process.

4. Prototyping

We developed a high-fidelity prototype focused on familiarity. We decided to adopt a design system similar to Instagram’s, utilizing:

  • Vertical Feed: For discovering recipes and video content through seamless scrolling.

  • Stories: For quick, bite-sized cooking tips and «hacks.»

  • Social Cooking: Options to invite friends to specific recipes; the app automatically calculates ingredient quantities.

  • Organization: A categorized recipe book and a dedicated events calendar for live sessions.

Let’s Create Together

I’m always open to discussing new projects, creative opportunities, or simply exchanging ideas.
